The Indian T20 League 2023 mini-auction is all set to take place in Kochi on December 23 and the teams are already preparing to get things sorted and rope in players who might help find the right balance for the team.
As things stand, Kieron Pollard announced his retirement from the Indian T20 League a few weeks ago and the allrounder will continue his stint as the batting coach of the Mumbai franchise. One has to agree that the epic tournament is witnessing star players retire and we decided to handpick five players who might retire after the forthcoming season.
Here are the five players who might retire post the conclusion of the Indian T20 League 2023:
1) MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni has been captaining the Chennai franchise ever since he was brought in 2008 and it was in the last year that he handed over the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja, which did not work out. Eventually, Dhoni returned as captain and the superstar is all set to lead the team in 2023 as well.
The former Indian cricketer turned 41 this July and reports claim that he might call it a time in all forms of cricket post the conclusion of the Indian T20 League. Given the matches are set to happen in Chennai, it is highly likely that Dhoni might bid goodbye to the league.
2) Wriddhiman Saha
Wriddhiman Saha had a fantastic outing with the Punjab franchise in the year 2014 and the wicketkeeper played for the Gujarat franchise and made it count as the batter went on to score 317 runs for the team.
As things stand, Saha’s stint in the T20 extravaganza might come to an end post the conclusion of the 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League. Having turned 38 this October, Saha might call it a time in the league post-2023.
3) Ambati Rayudu
Ambati Rayudu was an integral part of the Mumbai franchise prior to the 2018 edition and in the mega auction held that year, Rayudu eventually made it to the Chennai squad and became a perfect fit, on the back of which, the batter made it to the international side in 2018 and 2019.
However, despite having a good season in 2021 and 2022, Rayudu might announce his retirement and bid goodbye to the league and the franchise’s fans. The batter did tweet about his retirement earlier this year, only to be deleted later on.
4) Amit Mishra
Amit Mishra is the third-highest wicket-taker in the league behind Lasith Malinga and Dwayne Bravo. However, the spinner was a part of the Delhi franchise in the year 2021 and it remains to be seen if he might get picked in the mini-auction.
Mishra, however, has been out of the radar for a while and if at all franchises fail to pick him in the mini-auction, we might as well witness the spinner announcing his retirement without making his final appearance in the prestigious tournament.
5) Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma has racked up 73 wickets in the Indian T20 League so far and the pacer was, much to the stupefaction of the Indian fans, not picked in the 2022 Indian T20 League mega-auction, forcing the player out of the radar for the edition.
However, with the mini-auction approaching, Ishant might try his hand and might as well find himself playing for a franchise in the league. With age in the bank, it is highly likely that the Chennai franchise might rope him into the squad. It is also highly likely that the right-arm pacer announce his retirement post the conclusion of the league.
