Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been one of the greatest captains that India has had. He has won three World titles. The 50-over World Cup in 2011, the 20-20 World Cup in 2007 and the Champions Trophy in 2013. He has been a superb middle-order batter for India.

He also had lightning-fast hands behind the stumps where he impacted some amazing dismissals which left everyone in awe. He was superb as a finisher of the game and for a long time, no one other than him knew the art of taking the game deep and the way a chase needs to ace.

1. Not completing 5000 runs and 100 matches in the Test Format

MS Dhoni’s white ball record has been second to none. He has scored 10073 runs at an average of 50.57 and a strike rate of 87.56. He has 73 fifties and 10 hundreds. But his Test Match record has been stellar as well.

He has scored 4876 runs at an average of 38.09. He also had 33 half-centuries, six centuries, and a double-hundred to boot against Australia with his highest score being 224 against the Kangaroos. Dhoni could not make the 5,000-run mark by just 124 runs. He missed out on playing 100 Test matches as by the time his test career finished, he had played 90 of them.

2. Most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in ODIs

Despite having lightning-fast hands behind the wickets. It is bizarre that Dhoni comes third in the list of keepers who have had the highest number of ODI dismissals. He has 444 dismissals to his credit. These dismissals consist of 123 stumpings and 321 catches.

The other two who have outrun Dhoni to this record are Kumar Sangakkara with 482 dismissals and Adam Gilchrist with 472 dismissals. Even at 41, he continues to amaze people with his superb technique behind the wickets.

3. The highest number of Test runs as skipper of India

Shortly after he had won the 20-20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007 and after the historic Commonwealth Bank series win in Australia, Dhoni was thrust into the Indian Test Captaincy. He also took India to the pinnacle in Test cricket as they were crowned the number one side under him.

He had an impeccable record as Test captain. In 60 matches he had raked up 3454 runs at an average of 40.64 with 24 fifties and five hundreds. He is second on the list after Virat Kohli as the most amount of runs scored as Test skipper of India. Kohli leads the charts with 5864 runs.
