What’s next for India in T20I format?

As things stand, India are looking to rebuild their squad, especially in the shortest format of the game, on the back of their sepulchral outing in the recently concluded 20-20 World Cup 2022, which India lost to England in the knockouts in a humiliating way.

Post the defeat, the Indian cricket board went on to sack the entire selection committee led by Chetan Sharma and are in the hunt for a new captain. With reports claiming that the board is opting for split captaincy, Pandya might as well end up becoming the permanent captain in the format.

The reports are claiming further that the 2011 World Cup-winning captain, who was the mentor of the Indian team in the previous edition of the multinational tournament, might as well join the Men in Blue team management in some capacity to reduce the burden of head coach Rahul Dravid.

India would be desperately hoping to turn things around in the upcoming 50-over World Cup to be held in India in 2023. It remains to be seen if Pandya could carry on with the momentum in the format and eventually end up as the permanent captain of the Indian team in the T20I format.
