Chennai hasn’t had a great outing in the ongoing edition of the Indian T20 League. Prior to the start of the season, MS Dhoni handed the captaincy duties to Ravindra Jadeja. However, the decision didn’t work out as the franchise failed miserably under Jadeja’s leadership.

Chennai lost all the first four games in the competition. As a result, the captaincy was handed back to MS Dhoni. However, the Men in Yellow still lost a lot of games. Chennai are currently playing their last match of this season against Rajasthan at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

Ahead of the start of the game, MS Dhoni gave a massive update on his availability for Chennai in the next edition of the Indian T20 League. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, MS Dhoni confirmed to his fans that he will lead the Chennai franchise in the next edition of the Indian T20 League as well.

Asked whether he will be available for the franchise next season, MS Dhoni said,

"Definitely. It's a simple reason: it will be unfair to not play in Chennai and say thank you. Mumbai is one place, whereas a team and as an individual I have got a lot of love and affection. But it wouldn't be nice to the CSK fans. And also, hopefully, next year there will be an opportunity where the teams will be traveling so it will be a like thank you to all the different places where we will be playing games at different venues. Whether it will be my last year or not that's a big question because you know we can't really predict about something two years down the line, but definitely, I'll be working hard to come back strong next year.”

MS Dhoni had a better outing with the bat this season than last year. He played some vital knocks for the team while batting at lower down the order. In 13 matches, he scored 206 runs at an average of 34.33, including 1 fifty. Chennai, though, failed to live up to the expectations this season. They are languishing at second from the bottom of the table with 4 wins in 13 matches.
