'We won in lagaan' - Twitter floods with memes as England steamroll India in 20-20 World Cup semifinal

The men in blue, who were looking in an excellent touch throughout the entire edition of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 have been knocked out of contention for the title. Jos Buttler’s England completely outmuscled the Indians in the second semi-final of the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup.

Indian cricket fans came up with a lot of multiple and divided opinions in the aftermath of this humiliating defeat against the three lions. Meanwhile, some of the fans also happened to relate this defeat to ‘Lagaan’ one of the iconic Bollywood movies featuring the game of cricket.

Speaking of the movie depicts a story of villagers accepting the challenge of cricket against the Britishers in the struggle to waive off the taxes. The team is led by a young guy Bhuvan played by veteran Bollywood actor Aamir Khan. Eventually, Bhuvan’s team managed to win the match against the Britishers and succeeded in waiving the taxes they owe to the Britishers.

Coming back to reality, when Rohit Sharma’s men lost against Jos Buttler-led England, the Indian cricket fans took no time in relating it to the outing of Bhuvan’s team portrayed in the movie. Speaking of the match between India and England, the Indian team didn’t look in contention even for a moment while defending the target of 169 runs. The opening pair of skipper Jos Buttler and Alex Hales made no mistake and came up with a clinical performance to win the match by 10 wickets for their team to make a cut to the title clash of the tournament against Babar Azam’s Pakistan.

Earlier, the men in green have entered the semi-finals of the tournament by defeating the mighty New Zealand, who was consistent throughout the entire super-12 round of the tournament.
