Watch: Rashid Khan's comedy of errors while fielding

The 51st game of the Indian T20 league 2022 between Gujarat and Mumbai turned out to be an absolute thriller. It was the Mumbai-based franchise who ended up on the winning side, as they beat the Hardik Pandya-led side by five runs. Gujarat would certainly be disappointed with this loss as it seemed like they would win this game with a few overs to spare.

They certainly weren't at their best on Friday. However, Rashid Khan had a good outing with the ball. The Afghan sensation was once again right on the money. In his four overs, he only gave 24 runs, and also picked two wickets. The fact that he dismissed the likes of Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard was icing over the cake.

However, he was involved in a hilarious incident during the first innings, which was chuckle-worthy, to say the least. It occurred during the second ball of the seventh over. While Rashid is known to be a superb fielder, he was sloppy in this instance. After he dived to his right to stop the ball, he missed it as the ball then went further. He quickly got there, but failed to properly release the ball.

Thus, he again had to run a little further. After collecting the ball cleanly this time around, Rashid then tried to run-out the batter at the non-strikers' end, but missed. In what turned out to be a comedy of errors, the fielder who was backing up at mid-wicket failed to collect the ball. This allowed the Mumbai openers to take an extra run. Hence, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan got two runs due to the fielding errors. Nevertheless, it was an absolutely hilarious moment.

Hardik Pandya and Rashid were seen having a good laugh about it as well. Besides, it was the 24-year-old who himself broke the 74-run opening partnership as he dismissed the Mumbai skipper for 43 later on. However, Rashid still had to end up on the losing side. As far as the game is concerned, the Gujarat skipper was disappointed with his batters.

"We'll take 9 runs in the last over on any given day, but the two run-outs didn't help us. In T20 cricket you can't keep losing back-to-back wickets, it pushes you back. It's one of the games where we ended on the losing side. We kind of played 19.2 or 19.3 overs of good cricket, but losing wickets didn't help us like I said before. At one point I thought they would post more than 200, but our bowlers did well to restrict them," said Hardik Pandya after the completion of the game.
