Wasim Jaffer makes big prediction regarding Deepak Chahar's replacement for Chennai

Chennai managed to buy back Deepak Chahar for a whopping amount of INR 14 crore during the mega auction. Thus, he was supposed to be one of their key bowlers in the 15th edition of the Indian T20 league. However, as he suffered an injury during the T20I series against West Indies, it is highly unlikely that he would start in the XI for the defending champions.

Due to this, Chennai will have to play with another pacer instead of Chahar for the initial games of the 2022 edition. Wasim Jaffer recently went on to suggest a few possible replacements for the pacer. He drew light on the same.

Jaffer stated that Simarjeet Singh or Tushar Deshpande could replace Chahar. Another name he suggested was that of Mukesh Choudhary. Among them, Deshpande happens to be the most experienced as the pacer has already played five games in the Indian T20 league. While speaking on ESPNcricinfo's show 'Runorder', Jaffer also felt that the Mumbai wickets will need the extra pace.

"We could see MS Dhoni giving confidence to the younger guys, the uncapped guys whether it's Tushar Deshpande, Simarjeet Singh who bowls for Delhi in the powerplay Mukesh Choudhary - he's a left-armer who bowls at decent speeds... The Mumbai wickets will need a little bit of pace so these guys can bowl," said Wasim Jaffer.

In the meanwhile, Aakash Chopra also gave his opinion on the same. During the same interaction, he stated that Chennai doesn't really have a replacement for Chahar. The cricketer-turned-commentator spoke about a plan B, which the Chennai-based franchise could adopt.

"Honestly, if there was a replacement, he wouldn't have gone for ₹14 crore. This is how simple that is. Secondly, we tend to overemphasize and focus on 'this is what we are missing.' Yes, you will be missing a lot of wickets in the powerplay overs but is that the only way to succeed in a T20 game? Yes, it is an important component - you pick up early wickets and suddenly you've got a fantastic start. But isn't there another formula to do well as a team? That's what Chennai will be thinking right now," said Aakash Chopra.
