Wasim Jaffer feels Rohit Sharma can become a better Test captain than Virat Kohli

Rohit Sharma has had a spectacular start to his stint as India's full-time captain. After winning all the white-ball games against West Indies and Sri Lanka. He recently led India to a 2-0 victory against the Lankans during the two-match Test series. As a matter of fact, he is yet to lose a game as India's all-format skipper.

His captaincy tactics were praiseworthy during the red-ball series against the Dimuth Karunaratne-led side. Thus several pundits and experts have appreciated his leadership skills. Wasim Jaffer happened to be one of them as he was left impressed with Sharma's skills as a captain.

He went on to make a bold statement as well. Jaffer said that the opener had the potential to become a better red-ball captain than Virat Kohli. It is to be noted that the 33-year-old was India's captain before Sharma took over. Jaffer also felt that the captaincy has now gone to the right hands.

“Rohit Sharma can become a better Test captain than Virat Kohli. Don’t know how many Tests he will captain, but tactically I feel he is one of the best captains and we are seeing the results of how they have whitewashed each series. It feels like the captaincy has come in the hands of the right captain,” said Wasim Jaffer, while speaking to ESPNcricinfo after India's successful series over Sri Lanka.

However, Kohli is statistically still the greatest Indian captain in the longest format of the game. Under his leadership, the Asian side have won 40 Tests. Besides, India also made it to the World Test Championship final under him.

As Sharma doesn't have age on his side, it is highly unlikely that he can break Kohli's records. However, he has the opportunity to win the WTC this time around. Thus, it will be exciting to see how India fare during the overseas Tests under his leadership.
