The Mumbai batter suffered a serious grade III hamstring injury. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Rahane is set to miss the remainder of the ongoing Indian T20 League 2022 as well. He will be leaving the Kolkata-based franchise's bio-bubble on Monday evening. He sustained the injury during Kolkata's last game against Hyderabad.

He had scored 28 runs in 24 balls, and was visibly struggling due to his injury while batting as well. Nevertheless, the Shreyas Iyer-led side won that game by 54 runs. Rahane will reportedly be heading to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, where he might undergo rehab. This process could take more than four weeks.

As for his form in the ongoing 15th edition of the cash-rich league, Rahane has scored 133 runs. He hasn't really been able to consistently score runs and thus, was constantly in and out of Kolkata's playing XI. When it comes to the international arena, Rahane was already dropped from the Indian team.

He and Cheteshwar Pujara lost their place to the likes of Hanuma Vihari and Shreyas Iyer. The 33-year-old wasn't really at his best, and was consistently inconsistent for India. This forced the selectors to drop him from the home series against Sri Lanka. In the meanwhile, India have a tight schedule ahead of them. Firstly, they will be hosting South Africa for a five-match T20I series.

After which, they are likely to play two T20Is in Ireland as well. Post this, India shall tour England. Thus, the senior players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are expected to be rested for the T20I series against South Africa and Ireland, and will directly feature during the England tour.
