The 16th edition of the Asia Cup came to an end on 17 September in Colombo as India defeated Sri Lanka to win this prestigious trophy for the record-breaking eighth time. But, there are some records in the ODI editions of this competition which are still intact and some of those made in this recently concluded edition only.

Highest Average - Fawad Alam (Pakistan)

This southpaw batter from Pakistan tops the chart with a staggering average of 251 in three innings in the Asia Cup (ODIs). In those innings, Alam scored 251 runs, including two fifties and one century. 

His best score of 114* runs came against Sri Lanka in the final of the 2014 Asia Cup. However, his knock went in vain as the Men in Green suffered a five-wicket loss. However, after that, he has yet to play any ODI edition of this competition.     

Largest victory in terms of balls left (India - 263 balls vs Sri Lanka)

This record belongs to the Men in Blue when they thrashed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final of the 2023 edition of this competition in Colombo. The Lankans got bundled out for just 50 runs in 15.2 overs. 

Then, in reply, India chased down the target in just 6.1 overs. Hence, Rohit Sharma and his men won that game with 263 balls to spare and it turned out to be the largest victory in terms of balls left in the history of ODIs in this competition. 

Highest Team Total (Pakistan - 385/7 vs Bangladesh)

Pakistan hold this record to their name as they posted 385 runs for seven wickets against Bangladesh in the fifth game of the 2010 Asia Cup in Dambulla. The Men in Green batted first and four batters crossed the 50-run mark. 

Among them, skipper, Shahid Afridi notched up a century and got out after scoring 124 runs off 60 balls, including 17 fours and four sixes. In reply, the Bangla Tigers scored 246 runs for five wickets in 50 overs and lost the game by 139 runs. Afridi won the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance. 

Highest number of sixes (Rohit Sharma - 28)

The current Team India skipper is known as ‘Hitman’ to his fans all around the globe for his immense ability to hit big shots. Rohit Sharma holds the record of hitting the most number of sixes (28) in the Asia Cup (ODIs) so far in 26 innings. 

In this recent 2023 edition of the competition, he hit the most number of sixes (11) in five innings. Rohit surpassed the former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi who is now at the second spot with 26 sixes.

Sri Lanka have this unwanted record to their name as they got bundled out for just 50 runs in the final of the 2023 edition of this competition in Colombo. After winning the toss, Dasun Shanaka opted to bat first India’s pacers ran carnage as they batted only for 15.2 overs.

Mohammed Siraj picked up six wickets along with Jasprit Bumrah’s three and Hardik Pandya’s one wicket. Only two batters managed to reach the double-digit scores and Kusal Mendis was the highest scorer with 17 runs.
