The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team faced off against New Zealand in the final ODI on January 24, Tuesday and after being forced to bat first, the Men in Blue batters slammed the Kiwi pacers, amassing 385 runs at the end of the first innings, with Shubman Gill top-scoring with the bat with his 112.

While centuries from Gill and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma were one of the takeaways from the game, the Black Caps pacer Jacob Duffy conceding 100 runs in his entire spell became another. To add more, although the star picked up a three-for, he ended up conceding 100 runs in his spell of 60 balls.

As far as the wickets are concerned, Duffy managed to pick up the scalps of Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, with Pandya giving the finishing touch for the Men in Blue. However, it was Duffy who picked up the allrounder’s wicket at the right moment, preventing further damage to his team.

For the unversed, Duffy was brought into the playing XI as a replacement for Henry Shipley and one could understand that it did not go in New Zealand’s favour as the pacer looked rusty on the day, conceding too many boundaries early on in the innings. Tom Latham, the skipper of the Black Caps, opened up on the game against the fiery Indian attack and said after winning the toss that the team would do their best to win the game.

“We are gonna have a bowl, it is a good surface and it will get better under lights. We have put good performances in the past and will look to put another good performance here. It will be high-scoring and the nature of the boundaries are short. We have got one change, Jacob Duffy comes in for Henry Shipley,” Latham was quoted as saying at the toss and that being said, Duffy’s inclusion might have cost them the game, eventually letting the Indian team take a 3-0 whitewash against Latham and his men.
