Multan Sultans fight their way to a second successive win

It was a good toss to win for Mohammad Rizwan and his Multan Sultan side during the PSL 2024 match on Tuesday night. Colin Munro and Alex Hales known for their T20 batting exploits were out early. David Willey got his countryman Alex Hales out for two when Kushdil Shah took an easy catch. Colin Munro was the next to go when he was bowled by Mohammad Ali after scoring 8.

Jordan Cox begins the fightback –

At 14/2 the visitors were under pressure. Agha Salman and Jordan Cox joined forces to add 68 runs for the 3rd wicket. The English batter showed no signs of pressure as he was adept against pace and spin. Cox scored 41 off 28 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes before falling to Usama Mir.

Agha Salman scores a fighting fifty –

Young Agha Salman showed why he is considered one of the most promising talents in Pakistan cricket today. The right-handed batter dropped anchor and scored an amazing fifty. The 52-run knock came off 43 balls with 3 fours and two sixes. It was a great innings by the young batter as he was the lone man waging the battle.

Multan loses power and Islamabad its batting order –

In the 14th over the game was paused for a few minutes as one of the floodlights went off. The players made their way off the field but once the match resumed the Islamabad Team saw their innings come off the rails.

From 100 for 3 the visitors were bundled out for just 144 on the board. Abbas Afridi and Usama Mir combined well to break the back of the Islamabad batting unit. Mohammad Ali then came in handy as he struck the final blows with the ball.

Naseem Shah strikes early –

Young Naseem Shah who has been out injured for nearly six months showed Pakistan what they have been missing,. The young pacer swung the ball at high pace and troubled every batter. Dawid Malan was beaten for pace as the stumps took a beating to give the visitors their first wicket.

Rizwan and Hendricks forge a key stand –

Skipper Mohammad Rizwan found a key ally in Reeza Hendricks as the pair added 71 runs for the 2nd wicket. With boundaries hard to come by early, the two rotated the strike well. Once the pair got their eye in they found the boundaries at will and the runs began to flow. Rizwan in particular opened up and hit six fours and two sixes in his knock.

Islamabad bowlers make a comeback –

Shadab Khan got the big wicket of his opposite number Rizwan for 43. Imad Wasim and Naseem Shah then dismissed Yasir Khan and Khusdil Shah to give some hope to the Islamabad side. Tymal Mills then got the huge scalp of Hendricks for 58 as the match opened up once again.

Iftikhar Ahmed guides the team home –

Still needing 11 runs off 10 balls when the wicket of Shah fell, David Willey came out and struck a four. This calmed the nerves as did the huge six by Iftikhar Ahmed to help his side draw closer. With a single, the Multan Sultans won the game and took the top spot in the table.
