No Dravid? Star Indian batter set to step in as India coach for South Africa series

After the conclusion of the Indian T20 League 2022, India’s senior Men’s Cricket Team will go to England to play a one-off Test match, which was cancelled last year. Besides, they will also play 3 T20 internationals and 3 one-day internationals.

The matches will be played from 1^st July to 17^th July 2022. Rohit Sharma is expected to lead the side across formats and Rahul Dravid should take up the coaching duties. Amidst that, India will also be playing 5 T20 internationals against South Africa at home from 9^th June to 19^th June 2022. However, all the senior players and the coach will be rested for the series as they had to depart for England on 15th June 2022.

Earlier, reports had said that the Indian Cricket Board would pick a different team for the T20 series against South Africa. The squad will comprise the likes of Hardik Pandya, Shikhar Dhawan, Dinesh Karthik etc. Besides, some of the young talents such as Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, and Avesh Khan also received a call-up.

The speculations surrounding India’s coach for the series against South Africa has now also been put to rest. As per reports, former Indian cricketer, VVS Laxman is likely to be the coach of India’s second-string team for the T20 series against South Africa. He will be doing the coaching duties while Rahul Dravid will be in England.

As far as the one-off Test against England is concerned, Cheteshwar Pujara is likely to make his comeback. Ajinkya Rahane, though, has been ruled out due to injury. The squads for both the series, however, hasn’t been announced yet. Both squads will be picked in a selection meeting on May 23 in Mumbai.

Talking about the limited overs series against England, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak should be back into the side. The duo hasn’t been taking part in the ongoing edition of the Indian T20 League as they are currently recovering from their respective injuries.
