Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad clashed against each other in the 47th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday, May 4. The two-time champions have pulled off a magical victory as they successfully defended 171 runs against SRH.

Talking about the match, KKR won the toss and opted to bat first. Rahmanullah Gurbaz registered a golden duck on Marco Jansen's first ball in the second over of the game, while Venkatesh Iyer also got out for just seven runs later in the same over.

Jason Roy was looking well but Kartik Tyagi, who was playing his first match of the season, got rid of him on 20 runs. With the help of Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh, KKR recovered their innings. The KKR captain was on pace for a fifty when he skied his slog against Markram, and the SRH captain caught him on 42 runs with a sensational high catch off his own bowling.

Then, Andre Russell was given the opportunity to do what he does best. He began the inning with two maximums, but Mayank Markande then presented Russell with a bait-and-switch delivery, and the Caribbean got trapped. Rinku continued his brilliance till the final over but then holed out to deep midwicket, where Abdul Samad took a smart catch, and SRH held the two-time champions to a respectable score of 171 runs. T Natarajan and Jansen both grabbed two wickets, making themselves the joint-highest wicket-takers for SRH.

Brilliant bowling performance by KKR

Chasing the target, SRH also started horribly as Mayank Agarwal continued his poor form and departed after scoring 18 runs. Abhishek Sharma also failed to produce any heroics and got out on just 8 runs. SRH continued to lose wickets at regular interval of time. However, later, the two proteas, Markram and wicketkeeper-batter Henrich Klassen stitched a wonderful and quick 70-run stand for the 5th wicket.

However, the stage was set for allrounder Abdul Samad and he was also having an opportunity to become hero for his team. But, unfortunately, he failed to do this as he threw his wicket in the last over and SRH lost the match by 5 runs. Varun Chakravarthy did a wonderful job as he defended 9 runs in the final over.
