It is to be noted that Roy was purchased by Gujarat for INR 2 crore. As the new franchise got him for his base price, it turned out to be an absolute steal deal. However, this isn't the first time that the Englishman has pulled out of the Indian T20 league.

During the thirteen edition of the league, i.e. in 2020, Roy had decided not to participate. Back then, he was with Delhi. However, the 31-year-old was expected to be a regular in the playing XI for the Gujrat-based franchise.

Moreover, as most of the games are set to be held in Mumbai, it would have benefited him as Roy had an exceptional record at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Besides, the batter was last seen during the Pakistan Super League 2022, and looked in superb touch.

In the six innings in which he played, the swashbuckling opener scored 303 runs at an average of 50.50. This included two fifties as well as a spectacular hundred. As far as his record in the biggest T20 league in the world is concerned, it has improved in the recent past

Roy has scored 329 runs in 13 games at an average and strike rate of 29.91 and 129.02 respectively. He represented Hyderabad in the 2021 edition, and got a chance to feature in the XI during the UAE leg. Taking his record in the shortest format of the game into account, the Pandya-led side will certainly miss his services. However, they are yet to announce his replacement.
