IPL 2023: 5 Players who can replace Washington Sundar in SRH

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are currently in the ninth spot with four points in seven games in the ongoing IPL. They will face Delhi Capitals (DC) in their next game. But, ahead of that clash, they dealt a major blow as Washington Sundar got ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury.

Speaking about Sundar’s form, he has scored 60 runs and taken three wickets so far this season. However, with this injury, this will be his third consecutive injury-threatened IPL season. So, SRH will look for a player who can fill the void as Sundar had the ability to score some quick runs along with grabbing wickets.     

Here are five players who can replace Washington Sundar in SRH for the remainder of IPL 2023:

Shreyas Gopal

This all-rounder from Karnataka can be a good option for SRH to replace Washington Sundar. In IPL 2023 auction, his base price was INR 20 Lakhs. But, no franchises showed any interest in Shreyas Gopal. However, he was a part of the same franchise in the last edition where Gopal played only one game.

In that match, Gopal scored 9* runs with the bat and took one wicket with the ball. Speaking about his whole IPL career so far, his first franchise was Mumbai Indians (MI) from 2014 to 2017. Then, Shreyas Gopal played for Rajasthan Royals (RR) from 2018 to 2021. After that, he played for SRH in IPL 2022. In 49 IPL matches, he has taken 49 wickets and scored 180 runs while batting down the order.

Mohammad Nabi

This star Afghanistan all-rounder can be another handy option for SRH. Mohammad Nabi went unsold in IPL 2023 auction and his base price was INT 1 Crore. Speaking about his IPL career, he was the first Afghan player to get sold in IPL in 2017. SRH bought him and there, he played until 2021. After that, in the last edition, he was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). 

As of now, he has played 17 IPL matches where Nabi has taken 13 wickets and scored 180 runs. However, after getting unsold this year, as quoted by ANI, Mohammad Nabi said: “I didn’t do anything in the last year’s IPL and I knew earlier that I will not be going under the hammer this time as my performance wasn’t up to the mark, so I accept this quietly and will focus on my game and will back next year surely,”       

Sanjay Yadav

This all-rounder from Tamil Nadu is another option to look for SRH. Sanjay Yadav was in MI in IPL 2022 and played one game. In that match, he scored a two-ball duck and conceded 23 runs in two overs. This season, his base price was at INR 20 Lakhs but no teams showed any interest. In 2017, he was a part of KKR. 

Then, Yadav was in the squad of SRH from 2020 to 21. But, in the domestic circuit, he has shown his capabilities with both the bat and the ball. However, after getting unsold for IPL 2023, in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, Sanjay Yadav said: “Of course, I'm a little sad, but that's how life is. There are ups and there are downs. I've already seen a lot in life, so these things are not problems. Maybe next year will be better.”  

Tanush Kotian

This youngster from Mumbai made headlines in recent times due to his performances in the domestic circuit. So, all eyes were on him when his name came up during the IPL 2023 auction. His base price was INR 20 Lakhs. But, no teams showed any interest in Tanush Kotian as he went unsold.

Kotian made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy. Then, he made his List A debut in the 2020-21 Vijay Hazare Trophy and 20-20 debut in the 2021-22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. But, before the auction, he got suspected for his bowling action, and about the auction, Tanush Kotian said: “It was a frustrating period for me. I was hurt. I had trials at Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings; it had gone well”.    

Jagadeesha Suchith

This all-rounder from Karnataka can replace Washington Sundar. In the last season, he was a part of SRH and played five matches. In those games, Jagadeesha Suchith scored two runs and took seven wickets. Speaking about his IPL career, he was a part of MI from 2015 to 2016. Then, he played for Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2019.

After that, he was in the squad of Punjab Kings (PBKS, formerly known as Kings XI Punjab). Then, he played for SRH in the last two editions. In the 2023 IPL auction, the base price of Jagadeesha Suchith was INR 20 Lakhs. But, no franchises showed any interest in him. As of now, Suchith has played 22 IPL matches and taken 19 wickets while scoring 70 runs with the bat.
