Former Indian skipper and legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni hung his boots from international cricket two years back in the year 2020. But since then, he hasn’t played in any ‘Legends’ tournament till now. The 41-year-old only features in the Indian T20 League and is also set to lead Chennai during the next season of the league.
T20 cricket has become very popular among Indian fans and its enthusiasm has gone to an extent that legends have come out of retirement to play for their fans and entertain them. The players who are playing even after retiring from international cricket are the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, and other former legendary cricketers. These players are featured in different leagues.
Watching favorite cricketers and their idols in action is like a treat for the fans but still, there is one legend from the gone time who is missing from all these ‘legends’ leagues. The name is none other than the World Champion skipper MS Dhoni. Even after bidding adieu to international cricket two years back, he hasn’t played in any tournament other than the Indian T20 League.
Here's how MS Dhoni can play in the 'Legends' tournaments
The former Indian legend is way far from the rest and his appearance in any of this kind of tournament can help in extracting magnificent results in all terms. But he hasn’t played in either of these tournaments.
The reason behind his absence lies in the rules made for these leagues. According to the rules, an individual is supposed to retire from Indian cricket to be in the role of a player or a coach for any other team who is not under the Indian cricket board. So, if there’s a question of Dhoni’s presence in these tournaments, he’ll have to retire from the Indian T20 League then he can go to coach Chennai owned franchise, Johannesburg Super Kings, and then he will also be eligible to be the coach of Chennai at the same time.
