Speaking about this development, Warner has said that it would be a ‘privilege’ to lead Australia following the removal of the lifetime leadership ban by Cricket Australia as they proposed an amendment in their code of conduct.

For the unversed, Warner had been slapped with a ban after he was found involved in the infamous ball-tampering scandal during Cape Town Test four years back in 2018. The incident left the entire cricket fraternity in shock when Cameron Bancroft was caught by TV cameras using sandpaper to doctor the shine of the ball against South Africa.

After facing heat in the cricket fraternity, Cricket Australia initiated an investigation into the case and happened to charge Bancroft, Warner, and Steve Smith a ban from international cricket. Subsequently, the New South Wales veteran Warner was banned from playing cricket for time period of a year and from the captaincy position again as well.

Recently, Cricket Australia has asked the head of integrity Jacqui Partridge to come up with an amendment to the rules with a statement, "The amendment would allow a person to request a penalty that they had accepted be reviewed after an appropriate period of time.”

"The onus would be on the applicant to prove they had undergone genuine reform relevant to the offense they were sanctioned for. Any review would not revisit the original sanction, other than suspension of a penalty in recognition of genuine reform,” the statement further adds.

Now, Warner will be seen in action for the Australian team during the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He is all set to open the innings for the defending champions Aussies in the marquee tournament in their own backyard.
