“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Mohammed Shami as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. Shami has reached Australia and will link up with the squad in Brisbane ahead of the warm-up matches,” reads the official advisory from the board on the behalf of secretary Jay Shah.

“Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur have been named as backups and will travel to Australia shortly,” it adds further.

Notably, the 28-year-old premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah sustained a knee injury just before the commencement of the first of the three-match ODI series against South Africa. Subsequently, he was ruled out of the South Africa series followed by exclusion from the entire tournament of the 20-20 World Cup 2022.

Earlier, he was Mohammed Siraj who replaced Bumrah in the South Africa T20I series for three-match series. Speaking a bit more about Siraj, then he has won the ‘player of the series' award in the recently-concluded three-match ODI series against South Africa for his stellar bowling performances throughout the series.

Coming back to Shami, then he has been the talk of the town in the Indian cricketing fraternity since the World Cup squad was announced. Fans were continuously backing him to be a part of the team in the marquee tournament in Australia. Although the wish of fans has finally fulfilled, however, it came after the shocking news of Bumrah’s injury.
