Confirmed! This player to lead Punjab in Indian T20 League 2022

Punjab have finally announced their new captain for the Indian T20 League 2022. Post the mega auction, everybody was waiting for the franchise to reveal their skipper. In what comes as big news, Punjab have announced that Mayank Agarwal will be leading the franchise in the fifteenth edition of the Indian T20 League.

The 2014-finalists took to social media to reveal this news. Their decision was well-received by the fans as they felt that it was the right move. Several users were happy over the fact that the Karnataka batter will be getting the added responsibility this time around.

It is to be noted that Agarwal has been representing the Punjab-based franchise since 2018. He formed a formidable opening combination with KL Rahul. As a matter of fact, he was Punjab's first retention ahead of the mega auction as well.

During the auction, Punjab were brilliant as they purchased several top-class players. As for Agarwal, he was thrilled to be given the captaincy role. While speaking about the same, the opener expressed delight on the development. He added that his job will be a lot easier as Punjab have a great squad. 

“I have been at Punjab since 2018 and I take a lot of pride in representing this fantastic unit. I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the team. I take over this responsibility with utmost sincerity, but at the same time, I believe my job would be made easier with the talent we have at the Punjab squad this season," said Mayank Agarwal, as quoted by The Quint.

"We have some vastly experienced players in our ranks, along with many talented youngsters who are keen to grab the opportunity and run with it. We have always taken to the field hoping to win the title and as a team, we will once again work towards this goal of lifting our maiden ITL trophy. I thank the team management for entrusting me with this new role of leading the side. I look forward to the new season and the new challenges it brings with it," he added
