After winning the toss and electing to bat first, both the Indian openers started their innings rather positively. However, KL Rahul edged one to the keeper and was dismissed for 12 in the eleventh over. Post Rahul's wicket, India's number three batter Cheteshwar Pujara walked out to bat. During this time, the broadcasters managed to capture something in the dressing room, which later turned out to be really strange.

During the 12th over, the Indian captain Virat Kohli was seen shadow practising in the dressing room. This happened just when Kagiso Rabada started to bowl his over. It looked like the 33-year-old was all set to come in and bat, and as things turned out, Mayank Agarwal was dismissed on the very next delivery.

Although it was just a coincidence, it seemed like Kohli already knew that the Indian opener was going to get out. This resulted in Kohli being trolled across all the social media platforms. This was due to the fact that he was prastising in the dressing room just before the wicket of Agarwal.

While some fans felt that India's Test captain knew that the 30-year-old was going to edge one to the slips, a few others jokingly termed it as "black magic". Thus, the hosts lost two wickets within a span of six balls, and were reduced to 33-2.

Post the loss of second wicket, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli looked solid, and ensured that there were no further casualties in the first session of the first day of the Newlands Test. In the second session though, India lost Pujara and Rahane and are currently struggling at 141-4, with Kohli set on 40
