Breaking! Indian T20 League media rights sold for record breaking amount

The Indian T20 League becomes the second most lucrative league in the world after NFL with these new media rights.

Indian T20 League continues to break all records and make new ones. The league was expanded to 10 teams in this year's edition with the most number of matches ever held.

With the amount of attention this league garners, brands and media houses trample each other for broadcasting rights. The ownership of media rights has ended for the five-year period and auctioning for the next five was going on for three days.

In breaking news, the Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah took to Twitter to announce the finalisation of media rights for the year 2023-27. In a string of tweets, the secretary revealed the winner and also lauded the board's capabilities despite two pandemic years.

 

"I am thrilled to announce that STAR INDIA wins India TV rights with their bid of Rs 23,575 crores. The bid is a direct testimony to the BCCI’s organizational capabilities despite two pandemic years." tweeted the businessman.

Jay Shah also proudly praised the league for becoming the second most valued in the world. Speaking of the same, he wrote, "Since its inception, the Indian T20 League has been synonymous with growth & today is a red-letter day for India Cricket, with Brand Indian T20 League touching a new high with e-auction resulting in INR 48,390 cr value. IPL is now the 2nd most valued sporting league in the world in terms of per match value!"

The announcement further spoke of the digital rights having won by Viacom18, "Viacom18 bags digital rights with its winning bid of Rs 23,758 cr. India has seen a digital revolution & the sector has endless potential. The digital landscape has changed the way cricket is watched. It has been a big factor in the growth of the game & the Digital India vision.

With the auction now complete, the Indian T20 League becomes the second most lucrative league in the world second only to the NFL in the USA. There are future plans to further increase the number of teams as well as matches in the Indian T20 League.
