Another such record that has been broken by the Indian T20 League is that of media rights. The highest bidders for the digital and TV rights for the Indian T20 League 2023-27 were confirmed on 13 June 2022, Monday.

The combined media rights have been doubled over the last five-year period. The digital broadcasting rights now stand at INR 44,075 Crore at the end of the second day of the auction. The per match price tag for the Indian T20 League now stands at INR 107.2 Crore a 98% jump from INR 54.23.

The rise of the Indian T20 League has been so stark that it has now gone past all the other world leagues and trails behind just one. Leagues like the NBA (INR 15.6 Cr), MLB (85.9 Cr), and the English Premier League (85.9 Cr) now stand at the back of the Indian T20 League in terms of per match cost. The current TV deal was won by Disney Hotstar for INR 23,575 while the digital rights have been given to Viacom 18 at a mindboggling price of INR 20,500 Crore.

Talking of the Indian T20 League, this year's edition saw an addition of two more teams from Lucknow and Gujarat. This year also featured an increased number of games due to the increase in teams. The league ended with Gujarat as the winners in their debut season itself. The most successful teams in Chennai and Mumbai languished at the bottom pointing to increased competition in the league.

Plans are being made for more teams to be added to the league. No decision however has been taken regarding the schedule of the Indian T20 League 2023 and the number of teams featuring in the next season's tournament as of now.
