Besides, he is currently the BCCI president as well. In what can be called big news, Ganguly might join politics. According to a report by My Khel, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be meeting the former Indian captain at the latter's house at Behala. This report further states that they will be meeting on Friday evening. Taking into account Ganguly's massive fan following and popularity in West Bengal, him joining BJP could completely change the dynamics of the political scenario of the state.

West Bengal is currently ruled by Trinamool Congress, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. It is to be noted that there were a lot of talks pertaining to Ganguly joining politics during the 2021 general elections to the state assembly. However, it didn't really transpire.

Another important point to be noted is that Ganguly had met Banerjee at her Nabanna chambers last July. They had reportedly spoken about a sports ground. Hence, Banerjee stated there was no problem if Shah wanted to meet Ganguly.

“If he (Shah) wants to go, what is the problem? Last time, too, he had visited some homes. Let him go. In fact, someone should tell Sourav to buy rosogolla and doi in excess. We have rosogolla and doi of very good quality, and we love to welcome our guests with it. I am happy to hear the news?" said Mamta Banerjee.

However, the claims of Ganguly joining politics seem stronger this time around. This is due to the fact that his tenure as BCCI president is all set to end towards the end of this year. Besides, the 49-year-old hasn't shown any willingness to extend his tenure. Moreover, it was Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi who enquired about his health when he was hospitalized in 2021 due to COVID-19.
