Indian selectors have announced the squad for the 20-20 World Cup 2022 commencing next month in October in Australia. In a good piece of news, senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel are back on the team as they are about to make a comeback after recovering from their injuries.

Apart from that, there have been a few players who were overlooked by the selectors while selecting the squad for the eighth edition of the marquee tournament. So, here in this listicle, we’ll have a look at five players who were unlucky to miss the spot on the team for the tournament.

Deepak Chahar

The 30-year-old pacer has recently made a comeback to international cricket after recovering from an injury. He could get a chance to appear for India only in one match during the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022. Although, he couldn’t scalp any wicket in that match against Afghanistan by conceding 28 runs.

But earlier, Deepak Chahar has produced some fine outings with the ball in the white-ball clash against West Indies. Everybody was expecting that the selectors might consider him in the squad for the World T20 2022. But unfortunately, the wait will be a bit longer for Chahar as selectors pick another bunch of four pacers in the squad.

Mohammad Shami

Senior pacer Mohammad Shami has been a vital element for India in the last couple of years. He has proved his importance in the Test and ODI for team India. But speaking of his appearances in the T20 internationals, then he has played only 17 matches so far and scalped 18 wickets with the best figure of three wickets by conceding just 15 runs.

Selectors have picked Shami for the upcoming T20I series against Australia and South Africa. But apart from that, the committee happened to ignore him when it was about to select the squad for the T20 World Cup 2022. This omission also went on to hurt the cricket fans and they also questioned the selection from the committee for the marquee tournament.

Avesh Khan

Indore-born pacer played his last T20I for the Indian team in the group match of the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022 against Hong Kong. Avesh Khan couldn’t impress with his performance as he leaked 53 runs in his quota of four overs without any wicket against Hong Kong.

He got a couple of chances to feature for India in the T20 internationals during the last few white-ball clashes against West Indies and Zimbabwe. But the 25-year-old failed to deliver up to the expectations. There were discussions about whether selectors would give him another chance by picking him in the squad for the World Cup. But eventually, they ignore him from the lineup.

Ravi Bishnoi

There is a saying, “if you have the problem of plenty, it’s more than a crisis”. A similar has happened with the young leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi. He constantly proved his worth for the men in blue with the ball by scalping 11 wickets in the last five T20 internationals he played. The 22-year-old lad recorded his best figures in his T20I career by scalping four wickets by conceding just 16 runs against West Indies in the last of the five-match T20I series against Lauderhill.

Management and selectors went on to include the experienced trio of senior all-rounders with spin bowling qualities including the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel. This choice of player made them ignore Ravi Bishnoi despite his good bowling form.

Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson has been in the headlines of social media among Indian cricket fans after being overlooked by the selectors despite his good form and performances. Looking at his T20I international career, then he has appeared in 16 matches and scored 296 runs with an average of 21.14 having a half-century to his name.

Although, apart from that, he has performed quite well in the last couple of appearances against West Indies and Zimbabwe. But, it couldn’t convince the selectors to pick him in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2022.
