Cricket is one of those games where players give it their all and still fail to sail through, making it the toughest game of all time. We decided to handpick the top five ODIs from the current year out of the many, including that of Sri Lanka's win, where the margin of victory was very low. However, while many claim that the One-Day format is slowly dying, there were a few games in 2022 that proved that the format will never die in the near future.

With the sporting evolving over time and fans preferring T20Is over the ODIs and England winning the 20-20 World Cup 2022, players, on the other hand, are moulding themselves to stand in line with requirements.

As things stand, let us take a look at the top 5 ODIS from 2022:

1) Sri Lanka vs Australia - 4th ODI, 21 June 2022

It was a record-breaking hosting series for Sri Lanka as they unbelievably pulled off a win against the mighty Australians 3-2. However, the fourth ODI between the two teams played at Colombo became the pinnacle of the series, with the Island Nation eventually winning the match by just 4 runs and clinching the series.

To add more, Sri Lanka put on 258 runs on the board after batting first on the back of Charith Asalanka’s 110. However, in reply, despite David Warner scoring a great-hearted 99, the Australians lost the match by 4 runs and lost the series as well.

New Zealand and Ireland faced off in a three-match ODI series earlier this year in July and the Irish team had a great chance to defeat the Kiwis in the third ODI, although one could argue that they had already lost the series post losing the first 2 ODIs.

However, chasing a target of 361, Andy Balbirnie and his mean came as close as possible to the target and fell short by just 1 run. To add more, despite valiant innings from Paul Stirling and Harry Tector who scored 120 and 108 respectively, Ireland lost the match by 1 run and the Black Caps sealed the series 3-0.

3) Netherlands vs Pakistan - 3rd ODI, 21 August 2022

Netherlands hosted Pakistan for a three-match ODI series in August 2022 and post losing the first two ODIs, the Dutch had a golden chance of proving their might in the third ODI as they came close to the target but failed to sail through in the end on the back of some stupendous bowling from the Men in Green.

To add more, Netherlands were chasing a target of 207 and were rather bowled out for just 196 runs, falling short of the target by 9 runs. Vikramjit Singh and Tom Cooper produced the hope for Netherlands with their 50 and 62 respectively, but Naseem Shah’s five-for ensured the Dutch stayed behind the line.

4) Bangladesh vs India - 1st ODI, 4 December 2022

The first ODI between Bangladesh and the Rohit Sharma-led team India turned out to be the best match for the Bangla Tigers as they snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. To add more to the match, Rohit and his men batted first and put on a total of 186 runs on the board at the end of the first innings.

In reply, the Bangla Tigers were restricted to 136/9 in no time and when many predicted that it was an easy win for the Indian team, the Bangla Tigers had other plans as they managed to win the match by 1 wicket on the back of Mehidy Hasan’s great–hearted 38.

5) Bangladesh vs India - 2nd ODI, 7 December 2022

The second match from the same series turned out to be a nightmare one for the Indian team as they lost the match by 5 runs and also the series despite Rohit Sharma’s valiant 51. While many opined that the match was well within India’s hands, the right-handed batter failed to take India over the line on the last ball.

To add more, India were chasing a target of 272 and the Indian captain sustained an injury during the first innings, eventually forcing to walk off the field. However, much to the delight of the Indian fans, the right-handed batter walked out to bat at Number 9 and almost delivered for India.
