Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be coming up with a lot of strategies in the upcoming auction, which is scheduled to take place in Dubai on December 19. In what could be the last dance of their talisman MS Dhoni, the five-time champions are aiming to build a formidable unit for the future.

Ahead of the 2024 mini-auction, CSK let go of a few players, including star English all-rounder Ben Stokes, who was signed for a whopping ₹16.25 crore. Stokes' release and Ambati Rayudu's retirement ensured that they had a decent amount of money in their purse. With a budget of Rs 32.1 crore, CSK have six slots open in their squad, three of which are reserved for overseas players.

However, CSK, who are known for acquiring older players, have made some interesting decisions while announcing their retention list. Some of the domestic players as well as foreign cricketers who have the potential to excel have been left out.  In this article, we take a look at three players CSK shouldn't have released ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction.

3. Subhranshu Senapati

Odisha cricketer Subhranshu Senapati, a regular part of the Impact Player roster in the IPL 2023, hasn't made his debut for CSK. He was expected to play an official game for them this season but was released ahead of the auction. The 26-year-old had a great Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign, scoring 265 runs in seven innings at an average of 44.16 and a strike rate of 148.04, including an unbeaten century.

2. Akash Singh

Left-arm pacer Akash Singh had a decent campaign with CSK in the last season, although his economy rate of 9.89 wasn't impressive. The 21-year-old, who played six matches, had to bowl in challenging phases but took five wickets, including the big wicket of Virat Kohli. The potential return of Mukesh Choudhary is what might have prompted CSK to release him, but it could be a bad move from them.

1. Sisanda Magala

Sisanda Magala came in as an injury replacement last season but only played two matches for CSK before his campaign was cut short due to injury. The South African pacer would have been a great asset to the franchise as he can deliver yorkers and cutters suited to the Chepak surface. He can also contribute with his batting skills while batting in the lower-middle order. CSK should have retained Magala, especially after dropping all-rounder Dwayne Pretorius.
