Jasprit Bumrah, who played a crucial role in India's 2-1 lead in the ongoing five-match Test series against England, may miss the upcoming match in Ranchi. According to reports, the team's premier pacer and vice-captain is set to be rested for the fourth Test starting on Friday, February 23 due to workload management.

Since returning to international cricket in August last year from an 11-month hiatus due to a back injury, Bumrah has been carefully managed by the management. The right-arm seamer was named Player of the Match for his 9-wicket haul in Visakhapatnam as India leveled the series with a resounding 106-run win.

Bumrah was expected to be rested for the Rajkot Test. But with both teams having a 10-day break before action resumes, the 30-year-old opted to play three matches on a trot.

Bumrah unlikely to travel with the team

As reported by Cricbuzz, the Indian team will leave Rajkot on Tuesday (February 20) after a historic 434-run win, and Bumrah is unlikely to travel with them. His return in the final match will depend on the outcome of the third Test. If India manage to beat the English team in Ranchi, the series will be won and Bumrah may continue to be rested.

Sunday's victory was India's biggest in Tests by runs. Although Bumrah took only two wickets in the match, his presence alone gives the team a lot of confidence. Not to forget, he applied breaks when Ben Duckett was going berserk in the first innings, and he also contributed with his bat to extend the lead.

Bumrah is currently the leading wicket-taker in the series (17 wickets at an average of 13.64) and has bowled 80.5 overs in three matches. It remains to be seen whether the management will look for a replacement for him. Mukesh Kumar, who has been released from the third Test to play in the Ranji Trophy, is likely to rejoin the team in Ranchi.
