Just like any other summer transfer window, this window has been nothing less than a rollercoaster. Top players from Europe's big five leagues have been linked with moves away from their clubs whilst some big name signings from small clubs have also been on the radar.
Many teams have been on the look-out to bolster their squad and have left no stone unturned ahead of the new season. Each team has looked to make improvements to their current starting XI. Let’s take a look at the top five most expensive signings of the summer transfer window
1) Harry Kane (Bayern Munich - 120 million )
With their talismanic striker entering his final year of his contract, Tottenham reportedly accepted a bid of 100 million dollars plus 20 million in add-ons for Harry Kane. Despite the fact that Kane seemed to enjoy working with his new manager, Ange Postecoglou, he remained hesitant to sign a new deal seeking a new challenge.
According to a post from David Ornstein, the 30-year-old is presently in the midst of committing to a four-year agreement with Bayern and is still waiting for approval from Spurs to make the trip to Munich for his medical tests. The deal is 90% complete and Harry Kane will soon become the most expensive player of the summer transfer window.
2) Declan Rice (Arsenal - 105 million)
The Gunners paid a record 105 million for the English defensive midfielder, making him the second most expensive signing this transfer window. Rice is well-known for both his exceptional ball-winning skills and his capacity to stabilise the midfield. The defensive midfielder, formerly of West Ham United, is renowned for his passing ability. It will be interesting to find out if he plays up to his price tag after contributing to 28 goals in 245 games during his lengthy stay at the London stadium.
3) Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid - 103 million)
Young English prospect Jude Bellingham will play for Real Madrid in the forthcoming campaign, as he completed his long term dream move to the Spanish giants. Dortmund and Real Madrid reached an agreement for the midfielder to be sold for an initial sum of 103 million euros.
Alongside Gareth Bale (2013) as well as Eden Hazard (2019), Bellingham will be the third athlete to be acquired by Real Madrid with a sum of more than 100 million euros. This is also Real Madrid's first significant acquisition of the current campaign. The club is anticipating a busy transfer market in 2024/25.
4) Josko Gvardiol (Manchester City - 90 million)
The Cityzens have agreed to a rumoured €90 million transfer fee after a long summer transfer controversy. He has a five-year contract and is now one of Pep Guardiola's center-back possibilities, along with John Stones, Ruben Dias, Nathan Ake, Aymeric Laporte, and Manuel Akanji. He was able to stop Manchester City’s main man Erling Haaland when Gvardiol and his former side RB Leipzig met Manchester City in the Champions League last season. That was the time when Pep was impressed by the Croatian centre-back.
5) Kai Havertz (Arsenal - 75 million)
While many Chelsea supporters might disagree and say Kai Havertz was a failure during his time at Stamford Bridge, Mikel Arteta sensed something special in the German forward and persuaded Arsenal's management to sign him for €75 million. Havertz is regarded as a forward who understands how to set up effectively within the opponent's penalty area. He played in the attack for Chelsea for 139 games, scoring 47 goals in the process.
