On 15 December 2022, France took on Morocco in the ongoing FIFA World Cup. It was the second semi-final of this ongoing tournament that took place in Al Bayt Stadium. Speaking of forms, defending champions, France defeated England 2-1 in the quarter-final. While Morocco created history by defeating Portugal 1-0 in the last round.

So, It was a chance for France to get qualified for the final in two consecutive editions. On the other hand, Morocco fans were hoping for another spirited performance from their players. Meanwhile, Lionel Messi’s Argentina already qualified for the final after thrashing Croatia 3-0 on 14 December 2022.

Speaking of the match, France started the match with more intensity than Morocco. Hence, it did not take so long for them to open the scoring as Theo Hernandez scored the opener in the fifth minute. It was an acrobatic finish from the left-back from a close range that gave them the much-needed lead. 

In the 10th minute, Morocco’s Azzedine Ounahi came up with a curling effort which Hugo Lloris saved comfortably. After that, in the 17th minute, Olivier Giroud rattled the post with a thumping strike with his left foot. Then, in the 36th minute, another opportunity came for France to double the lead. But, first Hakimi cleared Mbappe’s effort and then, Giroud had time and space to score that goal. However, his effort went wide. In the 45th minute, Jawad El Yamiq almost scored a stunner for his country with an overhead kick.

But, his effort hit the post, and finally, the first half ended 1-0. In the second half, France's defenders looked vulnerable as Morocco came up with some solid attacks within the first 10 minutes of the game. But, somehow, they managed to hold their lead. In the 72nd minute, Marcus Thuram had an effort with a header while Antoine Griezmann delivered a beautiful ball into the box from a free-kick. But, his effort ended wide of the right post. Then, in the 79th minute, Randal Kolo Muani scored the second goal for France. After that, they managed to hold that lead and the game ended 2-0 in favor of France.
