FIFA World Cup 2022, Match 37 and 38, Group D: Australia defeat Denmark 1-0, qualify for Round of 16 along with France

On 30 November 2022, all four Group D teams were in action in the ongoing FIFA World Cup. France already sealed their place by winning the first two matches. So, they rested all-star players when they faced Tunisia in Education City Stadium. On the other hand, Australia locked horns with Denmark in Al Janoub Stadium.

Before these clashes, all three teams had a chance to qualify for the knockout rounds by winning their respective games by a considerable margin. So, the stage was set for fans to witness two good football games. All eyes were on Denmark’s Christian Eriksen as he was the main player for them ahead of this crucial encounter.

France and Australia sealed their places in the Round of 16 in the FIFA World Cup 2022

Australia vs Denmark

Denmark looked more at control in the game since the begging than Australia. But, the Aussie defense was solid which prevent Denmark from scoring despite several chances. Denmark got a chance to score in the 19th minute. The ball was going into the goal by getting defected to an Australian player.

But, Mathew Ryan responded quickly to save that. Finally, the first half ended 0-0. In the second half, Australia broke the deadlock in the 60th minute. Mathew Leckie scored the goal while Riley McGree provided the assist. However, the Aussies managed to hold the lead as they defeated Denmark 1-0. Thus, Australia qualified for the next round. 

Tunisia vs France

Tunisia had a blistering start to the game. They also managed to score the opener in the 8th minute. But, the referee canceled that as it was found to be an offside goal. Then, Tunisia’s Ben Romdhane Ali had a shot in the 17th minute. however, he managed to hit that into the side netting only. In the 25th minute, Kingsley Koman managed an effort wide of the target.

However, the France Goalkeeper Steve Mandanda prevented Tunisia twice in the 30th and 35th minutes. Thus, the first half ended 0-0. But, in the second half, it did not take long for Tunisia to score their first goal. In the 58th minute, Wahbi Khazri scored the opener while Aissa Laidouni assisted him. Tunisia tried hard to add more goals but they failed. They defeated France 1-0. Still, they ended up being knocked out of the tournament.
