Shooting, the game which has won numerous medals for India over the years in international competitions is all set to make a comeback at the Commonwealth Games in 2026.  CWG 2026 is scheduled to be played in the Australian state of Victoria. Notably, shooting was not a part of the Commonwealth Games 2022 held in Birmingham.

In the same sequence and an announcement by the Commonwealth Games Federation earlier today, archery shooting will not be a part of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Victoria.

Speaking from the Indian perspective, then India has won a total of 135 medals which they’ve won 63 Gold medals in shooting. It is also the highest number of Indian athletes in any sport. Whereas, on the other hand, India has clinched 114 medals in wrestling including 49 Gold medals.

Golf, BMX, and Coastal rowing are all set to play for the very first time in the 2026 edition of the Commonwealth Games. Coastal rowing is also supposed to play in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, this game is played in the boats competing in open water.

Multiple cities of Victoria will host the Commonwealth Games 2026 and it includes 22 sports alongside 26 disciplines. The games will also feature nine para-sport as the organizers said in an official statement.

“Victoria 2026 is also proposing to add in Para-sport disciplines in golf, coastal rowing, and the road (cycling) race and will work with the Commonwealth Games Federation and relevant international sporting federations to determine if this is possible,” reads the statement.

Here’s a list of sports added to the 2026 Commonwealth Games:

Athletics and Para-Athletics; Badminton; Basketball (3×3 and 3×3 Wheelchair); Boxing; Beach Volleyball; Coastal Rowing; T20 Cricket (Women’s only); Cycling (BMX, Mountain Bike, Road, Track, and Para-Track); Diving; Golf; Gymnastics; Hockey; Lawn Bowls and Para Lawn Bowls; Netball; Para-Powerlifting; Rugby Sevens; Shooting and Para-shooting; Squash; Table Tennis and Para-Table Tennis; Triathlon and Para-Triathlon; Weightlifting.
