Suryakumar Yadav has not had a good tour in West Indies so far. The 32-year-old has made 19 off 25 balls in the first ODI with three fours and one six, batting at number 3. In the second ODI, he batted at number 6 and made 24 off 25 balls with three fours. Now reports have emerged that the Indian team management are looking to lock in Suryakumar Yadav at the Number 6 position in ODIs.

The man from Mumbai has got an extended run in ODI cricket. He has played 25 ODIs and scored 476 runs at an average of 23.80 and a strike rate of 100.42. He has hit two fifties in ODIs and also registered three consecutive ducks in the recent ODI home series against Australia. The team management feels that Suryakumar can use his T20 style of play and score some quick runs for India.

Suryakumar Yadav is still learning about ODI cricket -Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid has thrown his weight around Suryakumar saying that the Indian Team will back despite a string of low scores. The India coach went further and said that the right-hander is yet to master the art of ODI cricket and is still in a learning phase. When it comes to T20Is, it is a different kettle of fish as Suryakumar has racked up three hundreds for India.

“Unfortunately, I think he will be the first one to address that his ODI numbers probably not been up to his high standards that he has set in the T20, but he is also learning about ODI cricket,” Dravid told the press after second ODI against West Indies. “I think Surya is a really good player. There is no doubt about it. His performances have shown that especially in T20 cricket and even in domestic cricket.” Dravid was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

A pattern which has unfolded for Suryakumar in ODIs is that he has not been able to play himself. At the start of his innings, he tries too many big shots which has eventually led to his downfall. The Indian batter has not been able to crack the ODI batting template despite getting a long rope.
