Australia got bundled out for 295 runs and managed a lead of 12 runs by the end of day two of the ongoing fifth Ashes 2023 Test. On day three, England’s Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley came out as openers. However, they managed a good start by putting up a 79-run partnership in 17 overs.

Duckett scored 42 runs off 55 balls while for the second wicket, Crawley and Ben Stokes stitched a partnership of 61 runs. Crawley got out after scoring 73 runs off 76 balls, including nine fours. After his dismissal, Joe Root came out to bat. Then, he and the England skipper put up a partnership of 73 runs for the third wicket. 

Root smashed 11 fours and one six in his innings 

Stokes got out after scoring 42 runs off 67 balls, including three fours and one six. But, Root continued to play his shots as he reached the fifty-run mark off 42 balls. After that, he continued and put up a 110-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Bairstow also smashed a quickfire fifty. However, Root failed to score another century as he got out on 91 runs off 106 balls, including 11 fours and one six. Seeing such an innings, fans went crazy and shared their views on social media. Some fans also claimed that Root has now really become a threat to break Sachin Tendulkar's record

It was another counter-attacking knock from the former England Test skipper. Australia’s Todd Murphy took his wicket and it fell on the third delivery of the 66th over. The ball spun through the gate when he went for a drive against the turn. At the time of this writing, England reached 353 runs for five wickets in 70 overs. Bairstow and Moeen Ali were batting. For the Aussies, Murphy took two wickets while Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc grabbed one wicket each. At that stage, they were leading by 341 runs with five wickets in hand.
