A full-fledged tour to West Indies is on the card for Team India as the series is going to start on 12 July. India will play two Tests, followed by three ODIs and five T20Is respectively. After the thrashing 209-run loss against Australia at the Oval in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, fans are hoping for some changes in the Test squad.

Cheteshwar Pujara has been a disappointment in recent times as since 2020, he has scored only one century in 52 innings of 28 Tests with a poor average of 29.69. In the final, his shot selection upset the fans and after that, reports came out that Yashasvi Jaiswal can replace him in the Test squad. But, now reports have come out that Pujara is most likely to get retained for the West Indies series.

Cheteshwar Pujara has played 103 Tests so far for Team India

Seeing such reports, fans are not happy as this veteran batter has failed miserably in recent clashes. The former national selector Devang Gandhi said: "You need to strike a balance. Selection is a process of elimination but you need that blend of youth and experience. The idea should be long-term and you have to look at two- year cycle now. I believe Yashasvi Jaiswal is ready for international cricket.”

“He has scored double hundreds in Ranji, Irani and Duleep Trophy. Looks solid in terms of temperament and could be groomed while being given enough chances to grow," he further added. About his shot selection in that final, the former Team India coach, Ravi Shastri was not happy at all. While speaking to Star Sports, he said: “Never expected that shot from Pujara...that is get-out shot and he is back in the hut. It's not the scoreboard pressure but poor shot selection." In that match, Pujara scored 14 in the first innings while managing to score 27 runs in the second innings.
