After another World Test Championship (WTC) final loss, Team India will look to begin the next cycle with a win. Their first assignment will be the Test series in West Indies. But, after the loss at the Oval against the Aussies, fans raise many questions about many players’ futures going into the next cycle.

Cheteshwar Pujara is one of them. Since 2020, this veteran batter has scored only one century in 52 innings of 28 Tests with a poor average of 29.69. In the final despite being known as a Test-specialist, his shot selection made headlines. But, now, as per reports of Cricbuzz, Yashasvi Jaiswal can replace Pujara in the Test squad.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was one of the stand-by players in the WTC final

Jaiswal had a great IPL 2023 for his Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise. He scored 625 runs in 14 matches, at an average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.61. He smashed five fifties and one century. He also smashed the fastest fifty in the history of IPL this season against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens off just 13 balls. Before the tournament, he also enjoyed a great domestic season across all three formats. He was also one of the stand-by players in the WTC final as Ruturaj Gaikwad opted out due to his marriage. Jaiswal replaced him.

A close source to the whole development said: "Every Test is important, and its result contributes to the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. We cannot experiment in a Test match." Speaking of the final, both Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara got out by playing two loose shots in the second innings after getting settled. Hence, the former Team India coach, Ravi Shastri was not happy. After the match while speaking on Star Sports, he said: “Never expected that shot from Pujara...that is get-out shot and he is back in the hut. It's not the scoreboard pressure but poor shot selection. Rohit and Pujara must be kicking themselves for the shots they played."
