India’s star batter Shubman Gill has reached England and joined the rest of their teammates who were already in the country as the players acclimatise to the conditions ahead of the Test Championship final against Australia. The one-off Test, which will decide the winner of the 2021/23 Test Championship cycle, will be hosted at The Oval and will start on June 7.
Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav shared an image on his Instagram story with Gill as they reached London. The 23-year-old will be the opening partner of the Indian Test team captain Rohit Sharma. Gill is in red-hot form as he won the orange cap in the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2023 scoring 890 in just 17 matches.
My hard work is going in the right direction: Shubman Gill
Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who won their fifth championship, defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets in the IPL 2023 championship game. By doing so, MS Dhoni matched Rohit’s record for the most IPL championships won as captain. After winning their elimination match against the Lucknow Super Giants, Rohit’s Mumbai Indians advanced to the second qualifying round. However, GT, who were fueled by a 60-ball 129 from Gill, hammered them later on. The young right-hander talked about his performance after the final match.
“Means a lot, my hard work is going in the right direction. We couldn’t win the final, but it was one hell of a game. It is very important to start well and I started well, I was getting 40s and 50s and at the end of the tournament, I converted them into big ones. (On his six-hitting) I practiced a lot, changed my technique for the death, and it has been good. All the hundreds were quite different, the SRH one was about control and MI one was about knowing which bowlers to go after. I picked the right bowlers, and controlled the situation well.” Gill was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, India will now play Australia in the World Test Championship final. In a highly contested series that India hosted this year, the two teams competed against one another. Australia came back to win the third Test by nine wickets after India swept the previous two matches. India won the series 2-1 after the fourth game ended in a tie.
