‘Ajju bhai ka class hai’ - Fans react to viral tweet from CSK praising Ajinkya Rahane’s cameo in IPL 2023 final against GT

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won their fifth IPL title on 29 May 2023 after defeating Gujarat Titans (GT). However, it was Ajinkya Rahane’s first title despite playing in the tournament for so many years. Rahane played some impactful cameos throughout the tournament and the final was not an exception alos.

While chasing 171 runs in 15 overs, Rahane played a counterattacking knock as he scored 27 runs off 13 balls, including two fours and two sixes. So, on 30 May, CSK came up with a tweet to praise the veteran batter for his contribution. With a picture of him, CSK wrote: “The cameo that will forever be remembered #CHAMPION5 #WhistlePodu #Yellove.” Fans also shared their views on social media.

After the final, Rahane said: “Credit goes to CSK management for backing me. They said they would back me completely if I got an opportunity. The victory is really special. Great team man . The knock he played today was really special. Credit goes to CSK management and Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni). They said they would back me completely if I got an opportunity, and told me what my role was before the season. They did not interfere at all, and the freedom that CSK gives is massive.” In 14 matches, Rahane scored 326 runs, at an average of 32.60 and a strike rate of 172.49. He smashed two fifties also.

While head coach Stephen Fleming said: "He wasn't in our initial thoughts, but the game in Mumbai was really defining. It was one of our best wins in the tournament and he was the big catalyst behind it, so he cemented that No. 3 spot. He has been unwavering the whole way through he's been nothing but positive, his nets have been positive. Anytime he's been caught on the boundary or out playing a big shot, we've just reinforced how good he's playing. So a little bit of belief and just sheer ability — he's been a wonderful player for us this year."

He carried that momentum forward and never let that run rate go above
