WPL 2024: Two young Indian stars ruled out of tournament, replacements already signed

Two Indian stars will not be taking part in the 2024 season of Women's Premier League due to injuries just five days before the new season. Replacements have been named.

With just 5 days left to go for the second season of Women’s Premier League 2024, there is bad news already. Young Indian stars Kashvee Gautam and Kanika Ahuja have been sidelined from the tournament due to injuries,

The young Kashvee Gautam had been brought by Gujarat Giants for a huge sum of INR 2 Crores during the WPL Auctions. This was the highest bid for any uncapped Indian player during the player drafts. Sayali Satghare who is an all-round star with Mumbai has been drafted in as the replacement. 

Kanika Ahuja is another player who will not play in the second season of WPL. The 21-year-old was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore for the upcoming season. Maharashtra player Shraddha Pokhharkar will be replacing Kanika Ahuja in the RCB Squad.

In a massive development ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Giants have lost two young Indian talents due to injuries. 

Kashvee Gautam will not be making her WPL debut this season after suffering an injury. The exact nature of injury hasn’t been disclosed as yet but the Gujarat side has already confirmed the season-long absence. Young talent Sayali Satghare will replace the young Kashvee Gautam for the season. 

Royal Challengers Bangalore confirmed that 21-year-old Kanika Ahuja has suffered a stress fracture. The Smriti Mandhana-led side didn’t waste time in naming Shraddha Pokharkar as the replacement player. 

The second season of Women’s Premier League is set to begin on Friday. The first game of the season pits Mumbai Indians against Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In the first season, Harmanpreet Kaur and her side won the title after beating Delhi Capitals in the finals. Last year the entire season was played in Mumbai in front of packed crowds. 

This year Bengaluru and New Delhi will host the event. The first half of the tournament will be held down south. The latter half of the tournament will move to the national capital. Arun Jaitley Stadium will also host the eliminator game and the final to end the second season.
