Pakistan and Bangladesh are currently locking horns against each other in the virtual quarter-final to be the second team from the Group 2 to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament. Bangla skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and decided to bat first. Bangladesh faced the first blow when blistering batter Litton Das fell prey to Shaheen Shah Afridi only on the individual score of 10 runs.

There came a moment in the match that has now turned controversial just because of another umpiring blunder in such a crucial match.

It all happened when skipper Shakib Al Hasan was facing Pakistan spinner and vice-captain, Shadab Khan in the 11th over of the match. The penultimate delivery looked quite closer to Shakib’s pads which compelled the Pakistani team to appeal for an out. Eventually, umpires happened to declare Shakib out at the moment.

In a controversial turnaround of things, the fact came to light that the ball was clearly touching the 35-year-old’s bat before touching the pads.

In a series of multiple-umpiring blunders, this is something that really didn’t go down well with the cricket fans, and they took no time in lashing out at the officials and the standard of umpiring in such a marquee tournament.

Here’s how fans reacted to Shakib’s controversial dismissal:

Speaking of the match so far, Bangladesh has posted a bit low total of 127 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Opener Najmul Hossain Shanto ended up as the leading-run scorer in the inning for Bangladesh with a knock of 54 runs off 48 balls with seven boundaries to his name. Apart from Shanto, only Soumya Sarkar and Atif Hossain were the two batters who touched the 20-run mark with the respective knocks of 20 and 24 runs respectively.

Now, the men in green require 128 runs to reach the semi-finals of the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup.
