New Zealand and Bangladesh are currently playing the first Test of the two-match series in Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. Bangladesh won the toss and elected to the field. Devon Conway scored a breathtaking century and with some support from Will Young and Henry Nicholls, who scored 52 and 75 respectively took New Zealand to 328 runs in the first innings. Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan picked three wickets each for Bangladesh. In response, Bangladesh made a strong statement with the bat.

At the end of Day 3, Bangladesh are 401-6. Bangladesh lost the first wicket in the 19th over in the form of Shadman Islam. A partnership of 104 runs between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudul Hasan Joy then stabilised the inning. Later, another partnership of 158 runs between Mominul Haque and Liton Das helped the team post a total of 401 runs for the loss of six wickets at the end of the third day.

On the second day, a kid was seen in New Zealand’s dressing room sitting along with all-rounder Daryl Mitchell. It was believed that the kid might be related to the Kiwi players. But, a Twitter user named Johns revealed the entire story behind him sitting there. In his tweet, Johns said that the kid named Jacob is fighting against cancer and New Zealand Cricket allowed him to be a part of the dressing room on Day 2. He posted the photo of the kid along with the following caption:

“This is Jacob, he is fighting against cancer and was allowed to be part of the kiwis dressing room on Day 2. Nice gesture from the New Zealand cricket team.”

At the end of Day 3, Bangladesh had a lead of 73 runs over New Zealand. It is the first time that Bangladesh was able to earn a first-innings lead in Test cricket after deciding to the field. The batters have batted exceptionally well for the team and they will be optimistic about winning their first Test against New Zealand.
