Former India skipper MS Dhoni has turned 42 years old. Born on July 7, 1981, he started playing for India in 2004 as he made his ODI debut against Bangladesh. A year later, Dhoni made his Test debut against Sri Lanka. 10 months before winning the T20 World Cup 2007 as captain, the Ranchi-born made his T20I debut. After lifting the title, the right-hander became the white-ball captain as Rahul Dravid stepped down.
In 2011, the former led the team to an ODI World Cup title for the first time after 1983. Two years later, he led a young team to an elusive Champions Trophy. Apart from this, the Men In Blue won Asia Cups in 2010 and 2016 under him. His IPL team, Chennai Super Kings lifted five titles, the recent one coming this year. Meanwhile, when the fans were sure that the 42-year-old might retire after the IPL 2023, he said that he might play the next season depending on his fitness.
"Looking for an answer? This is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love I have received all over. The easy thing would be to walk away from here, but the harder thing would be working hard for 9 months and try to play another IPL. It would be a gift from me, won't be easy on the body," Dhoni told broadcasters moments before he joined his teammates to collect the IPL trophy.
MS Dhoni had a successful knee surgery: CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan
Notably, the wicketkeeper batter played the 16th season carrying a niggle in the knee. There were instances of him in pain and also wrapping the knee with an ice pack.
“Yes, Dhoni has had a successful knee surgery at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday. He is doing fine and the surgery happened in the morning. I don’t have details. I am yet to get all the details about the nature of surgery and other things,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed to PTI.
