In 2011, the former led the team to an ODI World Cup title for the first time after 1983. Two years later, he led a young team to an elusive Champions Trophy. Apart from this, the Men In Blue won Asia Cups in 2010 and 2016 under him. His IPL team, Chennai Super Kings lifted five titles, the recent one coming this year. Meanwhile, when the fans were sure that the 42-year-old might retire after the IPL 2023, he said that he might play the next season depending on his fitness.

"Looking for an answer? This is the best time to announce my retirement. But the amount of love I have received all over. The easy thing would be to walk away from here, but the harder thing would be working hard for 9 months and try to play another IPL. It would be a gift from me, won't be easy on the body," Dhoni told broadcasters moments before he joined his teammates to collect the IPL trophy.
