In his absence, Jasprit Bumrah is likely to take over the leadership duties. The fifth Test was scheduled to play last year but due to a Covid-19 breakout in the Indian camp, it was postponed to a later date.

The rescheduled Test match is slated to be played from 1st to 5th July 2022 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. However, the Covid hasn’t left the country yet. There are chances of covid outbreak if players will come in contact with the people around the city.

However, the Indian players don’t seem to be too concerned and are roaming around in the city. Some of the players were even seen taking pictures while  on roads, giving the Indian Cricket Board a major headache.

After Rohit Sharma had tested positive, the Indian Cricket Board had directed its players to avoid going out unnecessarily to avoid any more covid breakouts in the camp. According to a report by news agency ANI, the Indian cricket board, however, has not been happy with the way players have been mingling with the outsiders, without masks.

“The board has scolded some players over their habit of hanging out in public. It also seems some players went in public and clicked pictures with fans, which could be dangerous. We had told them to stay careful but they still often roamed around in the city which is not required, so we asked them again to take precautions,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by ANI.

The Indian Cricket Board’s advice had little impact on the players. Some of the players, including Virat Kohli, recently went on to eat in a café in Birmingham. After having their meal, the Indian players also clicked pictures with the staff. Strangely, none of them wore masks.
