It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that South Africa completely annihilated India in the recently concluded three-match ODI series. The visitors were whitewashed by the hosts. Thus, this led to the Indian side being massively criticized by the experts and fans.

However, one of the major criticism faced by the Asian side was that they failed to regularly pick wickets in the middle overs. Thus, this enabled the Proteas batters to settle, and pile up the big runs. This is one of the major reasons why Ravichandran Ashwin's place in the one-day side was questioned.

Harbhajan Singh felt that Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal took a defensive approach. He stated that India needs to look beyond Ashwin in one-dayers. The former off-spinner went on to say that the two spinners didn't create too many opportunities in the middle-overs

Someone like Kuldeep Yadav could be a great option: Harbhajan Singh

"I think these two guys (Ishant Sharma and Ashwin) have done really well for Team India, whether you talk about Test cricket or ODIs. With all due respect to R Ashwin, I think he is a champion bowler, but in ODI cricket, I feel, it's time India start looking for an option, maybe someone who can take the ball in as well as out," said Harbhajan Singh, while seeking to Sports Today.

"R Ashwin and Yuzi Chahal played in the South Africa series. They didn't create too many opportunities with the ball, they were a bit defensive with their approach. There were times when they could have attacked the opposition by putting in another slip or another man catching in. And of course, wickets were very, very true. There is no doubt about it," he added.

Singh then felt that the Asian side could turn back to Kuldeep Yadav. He cited the fact that the duo of Chahal and the chinaman bowler were superb in the past, and have won several games for India. It is to be noted that Yadav hasn't been in the best of form and thus, hasn't been a regular in the national side in the recent past.

"Someone like Kuldeep Yadav could be a great option. Why don't we go back to Kulcha combination and see what they can bring to the table? They won have games for India. It will be a good thing to go back to them," said the "Turbanator".
