The Indian cricket board has announced the squad of the Indian team for the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe. The management decided to give rest to some of the senior players including regular skipper Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli. But amidst all this, the continuous rest of Virat didn’t go well with the cricket fans in India.
The sources have learned that the Indian team management has decided to rest Virat Kohli because they want him to get his form very soon ahead of the Asia Cup. But everything turned up with some allegations and revelations that the 33-year-old has decided to keep himself outside the squad. In the same process, he allegedly asked the board to retain his services in the Asia Cup.
Just after the announcement of the squad, people started speculating if Kohli was dropped from the squad or if he has rested. However, the Indian cricket fans went on to Twitter to express their frustration and blasted on Virat Kohli’s continuous unavailability.
Virat Kohli had spoken to selectors that he would be available from the Asia Cup onwards - Source told PTI
The reports from the PTI learned that the former skipper had a conversation with the management. In that conversation, he informed the selectors about his future plans. Particular reports understand that Kohli spoke about his unavailability for the Zimbabwe tour. But in the subsequent process, he also told BCCI that he’ll be available for continuous cricket from Asia Cup onwards.
Notably, following the conclusion of the Asia Cup, the Indian team will lock horns with Australia and South Africa for limited-overs bilateral clashes. So, some senior players might miss these series as per their requirements in the T20 World Cup of 2022. The World Cup will be played later in the dusk of this year.
Speaking of the Virat Kohli issue, then a source talked about this whole scenario with PTI. He informed about the speculated conversation between the Senior lad and the board.
"Virat had spoken to selectors that he would be available from the Asia Cup onwards. The first team players will hardly get rest from Asia Cup till the end of World T20. Hence this is a two-week window after the Windies tour when they can rest," a source was quoted as saying to PTI.
Here's how Twitter reacted to Virat Kohli's unavailability row:
