Hosting a bilateral series and a tournament with ten teams are two different things - CEO, SLC on Asia Cup 2022

“Every effort was to host the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and we have taken the decision to shift the venue to the UAE after much deliberation. The UAE will be the new venue while Sri Lanka will continue to retain hosting rights,” said Shah in the official press release.

Notably, Sri Lanka is currently enduring a serious economical and political disturbance. The people of the country are in anger against the recent government of the country. They are in agony with the government for ruining the infrastructure, establishment, and resources of the country.

Considering all these things, Ashley de Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket has also expressed his stand on the hosting of the Asia Cup 2022. He also opened up about the miserable internal conditions of the country.

“Hosting two teams is not the same as hosting ten teams. You have to provide ten buses with fuel for all of them. As a host, you have to give every team a luggage van with fuel, and transport for the managers. You also have to give the sponsors transport and ensure that they are getting the mileage that they want from their sponsorship. The fuel for the generators to run the floodlights will also have to be found,” said de Silva to ESPN Cricinfo.
