Legendary Indian cricketer, Mithali Raj announced her retirement from all forms of International Cricket on Thursday, bringing an end to an outstanding 23-year-long career. The 39-year-old cricketer announced her arrival with an outstanding unbeaten 114-run knock in her first ODI game against Ireland. Raj was only 16 years and 205 days old back then. Notably, she still holds the record of the youngest woman to have scored a century in ODI cricket.

In her illustrious career, Mithali Raj represented India in 12 Tests, 232 ODIs, and 89 T20 internationals. In all, she has compiled 10,686 runs – the most by any player in the history of women’s cricket. Mithali Raj has scored 7805 runs in 232 ODI and has 64 fifties and 7 hundreds to her name.

Notably, Mithali Raj is the only cricketer, including both male and female, to have led the team to the final in two ICC World Cups. Under her leadership, India reached the final in 2005 and 2017 editions. However, India couldn’t win the tournament on both occasions.

Mithali Raj is one of the most popular personalities in India. She is currently 39-year old but is yet to get married. Journalists, on several occasions, have asked about her plans on getting married.

In an interview with Mid-Day, she opened up on her thoughts regarding marriage. Raj told that the thought to get married used to cross her mind when she was young but not anymore.

“It used to … long time back, when I was very young. But it doesn’t cross now when I see married people. I am very happy being single,” Mithali Raj had told Mid-Day in 2018, as quoted by Timesnownews.com.

Mithali Raj led India in the ICC 50-over Women’s World Cup 2022. India finished the tournament at the number 5 position. The Women in Blue failed to reach the semi-final and as they could only win 3 matches out of 7.
