Sri Lanka and Pakistan locked horns in the last match of the super-4 round of the Asia Cup 2022. Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and asked the Pakistani side to bat first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Batting first, they could post a total of only 121 runs for the loss of all wickets in 19.1 overs.

While chasing the target, Sri Lanka crossed the comfortably in the 17 overs and scored 124 for the loss of five wickets to win the match by five wickets. Notably, this is the fourth consecutive win for the Lankan tigers in the Asia Cup. They are continuously winning in the tournament since their first win against Bangladesh in the group stage.

The fans also reacted to this emphatic win of Sri Lanka in the closing fixture of the tournament. They appreciated the efforts from Dasun Shanaka & co in the match against the men in green.

Speaking about the match, then skipper Babar Azam and middle-order batter Mohammed Nawaz was the only batter who crossed the mark of 20+ runs for Pakistan. Babar played a knock of 30 runs whereas Nawaz’s inning ended with a run out at the individual score of 26 runs off 18 balls. Star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga scalped the highest number of three wickets for Sri Lanka. Other than him, Mahesh Theekshana and Pramod Madhushan also scalped two wickets each and bundled up Pakistan only on the score of 121 runs in 19.1 overs.

Although Sri Lanka also didn’t have a good start while chasing the target, they lost their first two wickets only on the score of two runs. But the brilliant half-century knock from Pathum Nissanka of 55 runs off 48 balls alongside crucial 24 and 21 of Bhanuka Rajapaksa and skipper Dasun Shanaka respectively, helped Sri Lanka to be on the finishing line in just 17 overs. Eventually, the official hosts of the tournament won the match by five wickets to keep the winning momentum through to the final of the continental tournament.
