Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik have been named in the squad for the Asia Cup 2022. However, the team management has kept suspense over their place in the playing XI. The fans speculate that the southpaw will get a nod ahead of Dinesh Karthik. Needless to say, Dinesh Karthik has been in a fantastic form off late.

Dinesh Karthik managed to amass sixty-six runs in the five-match T20I series. The batter failed to carry on his form from the first T20I where he scored 41 off 19 balls. Whereas the southpaw managed to score 115 runs off the four innings that he played. This gives Pant an edge over Dinesh Karthik.

The Delhi batter was asked about the competition with Dinesh Karthik recently. Pant said that they both do not think about that. And the left-handed batter added that they always try to give a hundred per cent for India in all matches. He added that the rest would depend on the coach, captain and team management.

“We don’t think about those lines. We, as individuals, always want to give our 100 percent to the team. The rest depends on the coach and the captain and how the team could get an advantage from that,” Pant was quoted as saying by Zee Hindustan.

Dinesh Karthik, who was doing commentary for India last year, has returned to the national side. An excellent outing with the Bangalore franchise in the Indian T20 League provided him with the opportunity to wear the blue jersey again.

Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, has been facing criticism for his poor performances in the T20I format. However, the wicketkeeper has done pretty well in the recently concluded T20I series. Out of the fifty-four T20I matches, he has played so far, the southpaw has managed to score 883 runs at an average of 23.86.

Pant will look to make the best use of the opportunity against Zimbabwe to cement a place in the playing XI for the Asia Cup 2022. It is all up to the team management, the skipper and the coach to take a call.
