The Indian team is currently gearing up for the T20 World Cup 2022 which they will appear in after three months from now. The men in blue have found a stable opener in the form of star batter Suryakumar Yadav. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Coach Rahul Dravid went on to do a couple of experiments in the top order in the last few days.

Although, the experiments seem to produce results for the team as the 31-year-old has scored 111 runs so far in three matches of the five-match T20I series. Apart from that, the continuous shuffling in the batting order has also raised the eyebrows of some cricket experts and fans as well.

But former legendary skipper MS Dhoni played the same gamble 9 years ago when the Indian team was playing in the Champions Trophy in England. He promoted Rohit Sharma to open the batting and the rest is history currently, Rohit is one of the most talented and skilled batters.

Senior wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik was also a part of the team in that edition of the Champions Trophy. He impressed everyone with his excellent unbeaten knock of 146 runs in the practice game against Australia. On the grounds of his heroics, Karthik fixed his place in the team at number four in the batting order.

Dhoni found a spot for Rohit at the top of the order - R Sridhar on decision of MS Dhoni

Recently, India’s former fielding coach R Sridhar has also expressed his opinion and talked about Dhoni’s tactic that absolutely went fruitful for Indian cricket and its players as well.

"There was one decision made by Dhoni in 2013 Champions Trophy to send Rohit to open. Dinesh (Karthik) was batting so well in the practice games but Rohit had to play.. so the management then, mostly captain Dhoni, found a spot for Rohit at the top of the order. That was a brilliant move," said Sridhar during a conversation with cricket.com

“A move that we made in T20s was Surya coming into the team a couple of years ago against England. He has shown how good he is. Shreyas (Iyer) is back at No.3, which is where he should be if Virat (Kohli) is not playing,” he added later.
